Sometimes the online world reveals unsuspected parallel dimensions. This is an unknown restyle of Neural independently (and secretly as we never knew about it) made by NY-based Motion and Graphic Designer, Clarke Blackham. Very nicely made, perhaps only a bit glossier for the magazine’s line, it testifies once more how even your most familiar outcomes can have another life somewhere else.
Ever since life appeared on Earth, for reasons more or less known, there have been several mass extinctions. Remember the dinosaurs? Many scientists consider the huge decline in biodiversity that we have recorded in recent years as the origin of another mass extinction. The sixth. Present throughout the world for over 650 million years without ever being in danger of extinction, jellyfish (it seems that some species are potentially immortal), represent the perfect evolutionary archive; symbolically containing the oldest human thoughts about eternal life, and, therefore, about the future. The improvement in living conditions in a technologically advanced world allows us to live a life significantly longer than in the past. But what is the limit for which to strive? The quest for immortality (or more feasibly for longevity) collides today with the possibilities offered by biotechnology, allowing for control over the design of life, thereby requiring a new critical redefinition of social values. The project “Aurelia + 1 Hz” by definition of the Slovenian artist Robertina Šebjanič who has designed and implemented it in collaboration with distinguished colleagues and scientists, addresses the possibility the of co-existence of animals and machines. In contrast to a robot (which the artist has worked on in the past) led by digital artificial intelligence, the project uses living organisms (jellyfish, to be precise) to process the “vitality” of a machine. Immersed in the dark the two containers are companions: in the technological tub, the jellyfish; in a glass case similar to those found in the laboratories, the machine. As though one gets into the shoes of the other. Fascinating. Benedetta Sabatini
