11.11.03 MindGuard, fake software on psychotronic control.

Conspiracy theories have always gained a following in the western countries, a fact which demonstrates an active vigilance on the mechanisms of control used by those in power as well as a strong narrative ability. An algorithmic parody of one of the most accredited and obscure theories, the so-called ‘psychotronic’, that is, the use of electromagnetic waves which can influence the activities of the brain, including decisions and desires. A mysterious Lyle Zapato is the author of MindGuard , a freely available software for Linux and Amiga which claims to be able to protect the user from this pervasive mind control thanks to special software routines named ‘Active Anti-Psychotronic (AAP)’. Among the functions there’s also a ‘decoder’ of the occult messages received by the machine, which translates their sender and body to reveal who’s trying to influence us and how. Giving additional credibility to this fake, the site advertises a fake book published by O’Reilly titled ‘Using MindGuard’, which completes this impressive smoke-and-mirror game to create a plausible and occult narrative process.
