18.11.03 Bureau d’Etudes, cartographies of power.

The typical organigrams of a company organizational structures, are nothing but a graphic paradigm to describe the levels of power. This same paradigm, used to freely describe the connections between global interests, can reach astounding results, connecting different controlling bodies and decoding cunning administrative solutions which put the control of economy in the hands of very few untouchable groups. The Bureau d’Etudes, after some complex works, made in collaboration with the english magazine Mute, is perfecting its graphic technique to produce flowcharts where pictograms, symbols and links show the most powerful inner circles of power in several fields. Freely donwloadable in PDF format, these ‘Cartographies of Excess’, as the theoretician Brian Holmes defined them, represent a disquieting landscape, but also a fundamental one, which is immediately comprehensible thanks to the symbology used.
