Dreamlines, visualizing the oneiric keywords

Dreamlines

Dreamlines by Leonardo Solaas is, in its own author’s words, a non linear visual interactive experience. The work is made with the integration of an inner part (the web, that contains all the information) and an outer part (the individual, that is unknown). The user has to insert one or more words to access the world of Dreamlines. These words has to be keywords of a dream or of a desire. Basing on the used sentence the software generates a picture that moves in a unique and unpredictable way, that dissolves in a moment when the session is closed, as it happens in a dream. First the PHP script visualizes a Google Picture related to the submitted keyword. Then the Java application analyzes the image pixel by pixel and uses it as an input to generate the a draw that changes continuously. In this way the pictures, made by always transforming particles (depending on the color and position of the pixels) are never finished. This meta-morphic ability becomes central in the work’s existence, evolving it from a a mere objectual dimension to a processual/objectual one. The objects are never more closed and self-relating, but made by a sense that is built through the relationships with the observer. The work is then sensible to the external stimuli, replying with the emission of signals, and physically transforming them, opening in the end a dialogic channel of interactive communication.
