24.01.03 Runme.org, a software art database.

Runme.org is a new database of software art. The artists can submit the executable code to the moderators, who will systematically sort them according to the taxonomy conceived by them. The classification of the works is an important aspect, as demonstrated by the ‘keyword could’, that is, the set of terms which can be associated to a work. So far there are more or less sixty catalogued programs, but their number is bound to increase with time, making it a point of reference for this kind of art which uses the code as a metalanguage for expressing complex and non-standard meanings. This project was launched before this year’s edition of the software art festival Read_me, which will take place in Helsinki next May and will show the best works among those submitted to Runme.org, which will nonetheless continue to function even after the festival’s end.
