30.07.02 RealNetworks makes a deal to Ogg Vorbis.
The greatest threat to the Fraunhofer Institute and its patent on the standard mp3 Agreement comes close a few days ago by RealNetworks with the Xiph.org Foundation and its technology Ogg Vorbis. The Real has announced that it will support Ogg Vorbis audio codec and its in its new open source project but also in the RealOne player, which together with the 'old' RealPlayer has 285 million registered users only. It is an important event for the development of open source and a standard audio acclaimed by many as the best, but still poorly adopted in implementations, above all, of commercial software. Ogg Vorbis is arrived at version 1.0 recently, and the next big step should be the development of plug-ins for the software from RealNetworks.
