The Media Art Net project arrives at a moment when the attempts at historicization of media art are abundant. Several organizations and publishing houses are making tangible efforts to offer both comprehensive study tools and to guarantee the quality of their selections. TheZKM in Karlsruhe, supported by many other german public institutions, has financed, in the last three years, the Mediartnet.org portal and a first paper tome. This second collection of essays reproposes the peculiar format that interconnects references on paper and online, influencing the reader, stimulating him with names of people and works printed in boldface and with iconic symbols, which help to fix in the mind terms and references. In this sense, the described works and media theories, often very different from one another (body, software, generativity, post-photography), are examined through an interface that omologates them in a single frame. The visual stimulation emphasizes the texts, which have sharply different rhythms and levels, trying to show another important (partial) cross-section of media art
