Standards and Double Standards, the invisible presence.

Standards and Double Standards

The ogle camouflaged cameras and the pervasiveness of their presence, are a constant of central urban areas of the city. But it is the invisible presence behind the cameras what is probably the greatest intimidation. The feeling of being watched, in fact, thanks to the optical equipment bets on a strip of road, it becomes the perception of an invisible presence that scrutinizes and analyzes his window of reality mediated by the shooting and projection monitor. Standards and Double Standards of Rafael Lozano Hemmer is an installation that plays right on the sense of presence, through its fifty belts with buckles closed, suspended and sensitive to the presence around them thanks to sensors, servo motors and related software tracking and analysis. Lozano Hemmer, author, among other things, of Vectorial Elevation , Body Movies and Amodal.net , plays sull'ancestrale visual sensitivity to motion that leads us to turn the head to the lure of something that moves. or at least to perceive attention to our presence that conveys the looks (for the survival mechanisms). What is abstracted here is a symbol of patriarchal reactive, able to act on both these atavistic mechanisms, either on the evocation of a figure culturally present in each of us.
