Thomas Peter – Medir
Sounds conceived to “furnish” virtual spaces; dilated and very balanced sequences (it is not chance that ‘Medir’ means “measure” in Spanish) articulated in a production deft in its use of drones, pauses and inspired emotional sounds. This is a maniacally organized project by Peter Thomas. It is diffuse and quiet, hovering between spasmodic expectations and cautious “sensorial emergencies”- an argument which plays out over the eleven tracks, including those giving pause between recordings, which seem to be part of the inner structure of the composition. Substrates and acoustic reflections, obscure resonances, delicate, vibrant and exciting for their unusual spectrum and the emotions induced are here reduced to a volatile sound substance full of sibylline tunes; suspended and elusive in yearning for acoustic absence and presence, rendered vividly even if the package is somehow “statuary”. Balance, imperious order, is continually re-invented in a contradictory direction: continuity and discontinuity, briskly alternating between the different parts with grace. These are the elements of a very responsive and sensitive set.
