Aspect, the chronicle of media art, Volume 4, Text and Language

Aspect Magazine

The use of video in works that require interaction with the public is very questionable, since it reduces the paradigm unchangeable broadcast what was intended to be received freely or at most through a set of rules, sometimes even beautifully circumvented. But for educational purposes, the video is an immediate medium, which, wisely used, can effectively introduce complex issues in its sequence highlighting the essential features of something that, in the absence of a guide, it is often irretrievably lost. Moreover, what is often lacking in the art is an interpretation medial qualified for critical comments that tries to guess and clearly explain the implications and the cultural impact of the work of an artist. This independent magazine in dvd tries to make up for both, by exploiting the properties and capabilities of the DVD. Each issue includes some works that, in addition to being documented on video, in fact, benefit from a second version with commentary by an expert with the original audio in the background. It is not, therefore, a surrogate, but a valuable reading and re-reading done in real time, while watching moving images of what is interpreted and developed as a meaning and a different depth of the work.
