Begins on August 8 all'Eyebeam New York We Love New York, Mapping Manhattan with Artists and Activists , a series of workshops and events that celebrate the Big Apple investigating theories and practices of public spaces and civil liberties. Topics include surveillance technologies, the movement for open access, tactical media and techniques of GIS mapping. On display are: a 24 meter phosphorescent map of Manhattan built by Sumant Jayakrishnan, a luminous three-dimensional model of the skyline of John Klima, as well as a number of interactive tools of the Community Cartography, the project 'City of Memory' Jake Barton and a series of GIS maps that illustrate the economic and social trends. A hand hold workshops digital artists most committed of the city as the Critical Art Ensemble, the Institute for Applied Autonomy, the Surveillance Camera Players, the Community Mapping Assistance Project, Matt Jones, the NYC Wireless, Beatriz da Costa and others. The same Surveillance Camera Players accompany small groups around the country documenting the locations of surveillance cameras that will feed the ISEE project.
