I said that once some man had been calling me a lot wanting to give me one, but that I’d never called him back or something, and then the kid looked up and said, ‘Yeah, that was me. I’m Steve Jobs.’ And he looked so young, like a college guy. And he told me that he would still send me one now. And then he gave me a lesson on drawing with it. It only comes in black and white now, but they’ll make it soon in color…I felt so old and out of it with this young whiz guy right there who helped invent it.”

Matrix.2 is the work of Francis Alÿs it took for the subject of his inquiry into the telephone voyages multiple-choice with the uncertainties and forks that are triggered in the decisions required and forced necessitated by these systems. The intentions are undermined by phrases that leave in doubt, cause the misunderstanding and gently put flea in the ear of the user, as in "If you go where you know, press 3. If you know where to go, press 4." The forks are transformed into complex mazes who drop functionality to allow space for inner reflection, while our fears and our certainties in hand are afloat in the sea of options one after the other.
