A digital treasure 21:12:02 saved by a collector of vintage tech.
Sellam Ismail is a fan of vintage technology, and a consultant specializing in obsolete computers. To him, and to his huge collection, you must recover the chronicle of a recovery: the material related to one of the richest shipwrecks of all time. In 1622, a Spanish galleon full of treasure sank with its cargo off the coast of Florida. In 1980, to more than 360 years later, the discovery were pulled to the surface 24 tons of silver and 180,000 silver coins, 125 gold bars and other precious objects. In large part, the treasure has been sold to repay investors and cover the expenses, but every single object and was photographed, meticulously described and archived for posterity. How? In digital format, of course. A great idea for those times, but sin for size: obsolete so as to make irrecoverable material on floppy disks and VHS. Luckily there Ismail: between the services offered by his small business, VintageTech , there is also data conversion and the rent of old machines to film producers. Our passionate regularly organizes trade fairs and flea markets in his area and over the years has collected more than 1,500 computers, 3,500 books on computers and the like (the oldest and dated 1875!), 20,000 magazines, thousands of software programs and manuals, and tons of videogames, including hardware.
