The officers of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base have made public a massive attempt to gain unauthorized access to their network of computers across the network. Friday, March 22, 2002, in fact as many as 125,000 were registered attempts as reported by Major General Richard Reynolds, who heads the Aeronautical Systems Center. According to the public relations director Ed Worley is an "attack organized and directed, one of the most attended that have been made over the past six months against the U.S. Air Force." Reynolds, however, said: "I have no idea if the person who made just wanted to get the information entered into our internal network, or if his intentions were to paralyze them." The air force base contains, among other divisions, the National Air Intelligence Center, several research labs, offices, management development program for the B-2 Stealth bomber, as well as one of the major computing centers equipped with military supercomputer, the Major Shared Resource Center. The official website has been temporarily closed.
