Selwyn Wright, ingenere and professor at the University of Huddersfield in Yorkshire (UK), has developed after two years of research, what he has termed the 'Silence Machine', a device that should be able to cancel out noise. The procedure consists in analyzing the sound waves of the source of the noise and consequently generate sound able to neutralize them through opposite phases and frequencies identical. A concept already used in headphones that cancel out background noise, usually used in the aircraft, but here would be significantly upgraded thanks to its personalization, with a kind of 'sound shadow' filter that would leave everything except what you do not want hear. The device has been patented and consists of a microphone for sampling sound, a computer powerful enough to generate the spectrum 'anti-noise' spread by special speakers to the unwanted source. The ingenere is working on a model now ready for marketing and suitable for industries which costs about 15,000 euro, and one for home use, able to acoustically isolate places like the bedroom or the garden from unwanted noise, such as music, television or traffic, and that it should cost around € 1,500.
