NetPD is a company that controls the downloading mp3 files from the students and consequently sends legal letters to colleges in which they reside, demanding the immediate removal of the materials and the blocking of access to the network for students suspected, in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act Its founder submits that the files can be identified even if they have undergone degradation and recognition of digital signatures is via search or similarity in the names of the files themselves. But according to Rodney J. Petersen of the University of Maryland, institutions of higher education have nothing to do, as they only provide a transmission channel, and therefore companies should contact the students directly. In addition, the letters do not specify who are the holders of the respective copyright asking the interventions mentioned above, one must always specify this request by the DMCA.
