27.01.03-III IP, network space reinterpreted.
How to graph the intangible asset is still one of the biggest problems of the cartographers of the network. Several artists have contributed over time to provide different interpretations, always alternatives to established standards of the browser. One of the last works in this sense is IP-III , a work of the Austrians Anna Krautgasser and [n: ja] that bases his theories on the transition from absolute space (physical) to that of (immaterial). The classic cartography that reproduces the physical location of the IP number on a map of the earth is here finally abandoned in favor of an interpretation by the different spatial coordinates. The principles that the artist couple starred in the show are basically two: the geographical data of the online users are transferred to a possible interpretation of the data matrix, and the space is formed due to the presence of online users. It is the encoding of IP addresses that is placed in the foreground, and its relations with other addresses will provide the bonds represented. In this way the cross-section shown is dynamic, reflecting the time of arrival of IP numbers involved, and forming as the display space so conceived, in a spectacular interactive three-dimensional wireframe rotation. An important step towards a conceptual and aesthetic representation that reflects the evolving nature oblique, liquid and unstable cyberspace.
