Conference on Computers, Freedom & Privacy 2003.

Inaugurated on April 2 at the New Yorker Hotel the Thirteenth Annual Conference on Computers, Freedom & Privacy , the conference takes stock of the guarantees of privacy associated with the use of technology. Several topics beginning with the American situation after September 11, 2001 and subsequent action, including the infamous Total Information Awareness, systems of privacy for Non-Governmental Organizations, the censorship of The Great Firewall of China , until keysigning in GPG / PGP. Among the guests there is also Emmanuel Goldstein, editor of 2600's the hacker quarterly, while there are three types of awards: the sarcastic 'Orwell Awards' and 'Stupid Security Awards' and 'EFF Pioneer'. The organizers have also prepared two simple services that allow even those who can not personally intervene to actively participate in the event. One is the creation of an e-mail address (question@cfp2003.org) useful for anyone who wants to submit questions in advance to the speakers of the respective conferences, with the most significant will be read publicly to the recipients. The other is the online provision of audio recordings of the plenary sessions on the same day they occur, streaming and mp3 download. In addition to the special event which consists of a tour of surveillance cameras in Manhattan led by Bill Brown, leader of the Surveillance Camera Players, will be a speech by Lawrence Lessig, author of 'The Future of Ideas', to conclude the sessions.
