The Public Internet Project is an association of New York whose main objective is to 'promote open access to the Internet for the benefit of all'. In the statute should be read also intents to: eliminate discrimination in the use of the network on the basis of race, color, gender, language, and economic status or political relisione: promoting cooperation among network providers, industry training and common people about the benefits of Internet, conducting research on the growth of the internet and the people who use it. Among the objectives, however, there are: the development of the network in marginalized communities, providing broadband wireless intenet in those who serve these communities, to defend the benefits of this technology at every opportunity, put pressure on providers to allow controlled sharing of band for the welfare pubblco, pressuring hardware manufacturers to include wireless capabilities affiche condivisine band and publish data and analysis in order to help the understanding of the digital divide. The first concrete step was the creation of a map of Manhattan that has led to the identification of nearly 14,000 points of public access to the network with the 802.11b technology. The association sells posters, reports and databases with the data observed in order to support its future activities.
