29.03.02 Stallman: software patents are a lottery.
In a speech at the Cambridge University Computer Lab, Richard Stallman stated that software patents are a real lottery, benefiting only rarely the people who record them. As in the lottery, in fact, who speaks often only think about the possible winnings, never to the probable loss. The inventor of the GNU Public License has stated that there is nothing personal with the patent of individual programs (which are harmless in his opinion) but with patents of ideas, which is a dangerous obstacle to the development of the software. Similarly the term 'intellectual property' (intellectual property) should be avoided. "It assumes that we should treat what is spoken of as property, which is not conducive to clear thinking and open-minded."
