At Nokia's Multimedia Developer Conference in Barcelona were presented a player of MIDI files to mobile phones and the Beatnik Audio Engine technology that aims to treat sound samples as standard notes on the same devices. The engine uses product standards file XMF (extensible music format), which can compress the sound in sizes up to 100 times smaller than an mp3. The XMF, in fact, similarly to Beatnik retains a structure MIDI, customizable through samples of sounds and instruments, for which a pop song can get to 50K of magnitude and therefore allows to realize ringtones 16-bit fidelity ie polyphonic. Particularly suited to this structure the Nokia 9210 and 9290.
