Teleferique is a ‘downloading art server’ independent and collective, physically located in CrŽteil (France), within the hinterland of Paris. It’s a space where the artists who participate to the project can download into their own folders experiments, files, videos, demos and small softwares which test the users’ habits and common sense. The navigation interface has therefore been realized with the characteristic sobriety of a text file system and, thanks to the site map, it’s possible to go deeply into the directories and download on one’s own machine the ususual codes. The experiments sometimes reveal naive mechanisms, sometimes mix the languages creating new hybrids. Among the most interesting are: the ‘radio robots’ which vocally synthesize the logs of the Google bots, Psbots and Picsearch, as quick as invisible server agents, ‘hiddencam’, where a software records the mouse movements and replays them as ‘mouse movies’, ‘Positions, 20 gestes qui sauvent’, a 3d handbook of negative attitudes, ‘Netticker’, a browser which counts the letters and numbers contained in a page and shows them using histograms, ‘Funiculaire’, a fake webcam synchronized with the day/night period, the french Jargon File in audio format, ‘Lost+Found’, an endless generator of anagrams, ‘Trace You’, a graphical selective traceroute, the demos of nato.0+55 by Netochka Nezvanova, the pure conceptuality of ‘Touche moi’ and ‘X-Cruise-0.24’, a 3d file system for Linux.
