03.12.02 Mapping the site of the CIA.
The computer security company said that Matta was able to draw a detailed map of the network of the CIA, using only public tool and search engines. In particular, using the commands 'whois' that act on the database of domain names and Google, it has been possible to reconstruct the structure of the web server relative to subdomains, locate the router, their interfaces, and even the IP addresses of the internal network. Also through Google, it was possible to collect information on the staff, including the dislocations in the offices and their phone numbers. The example of the CIA is emblematic for any other organization, using the same tools. The director of McNab, however, has cleared the field of security problems of access to the network itself, stating that the agency has the appropriate technical resources to defend themselves from attack.
